Welcome all to 2019! I hope you enjoy this issue where we start of the year with a collection of great poems accompanied with art from Hiruni. I hope you can take some time from studying for finals to slow down and check out what the Stuyvesant community has to offer. Please comment on any of the pieces you would like!
Can you imagine writing a phrase of alliteration for each letter of the alphabet and still making a poem that has meaning and reads smoothly? Well, Selina did it and yo should read it.
For this issue we explore the themes of change and difficult relationships with people. We also have some really creative and fun reads. I hope you all enjoy this wonderful poetry!

Hop on the train

Do You Exist? by Hilary Nolasco
I caught him going home on the same train as me
We got off at the same stop
I've gotten on the train at various times
Unless he's an early bird that wakes
up at 4 AM I should have ran into him
I've gone as early as possible just to finish homework
I've gone as late as possible
Just to be able to sleep more
Where are you?
Do you even exist?
I Can Feel Their Stares by Selina Dai
I can feel my cheeks heat up
"I made a mistake again."
I can feel their judging stares
making me choke up
I can feel a rush of shame
worsening with every laugh
I can feel the growing paranoia
eating away at my trust and
I can feel the murderous rage
killing my humanity.
Who Are You? by Ekra Sikder
Who are you?
Why are you here?
Leave me alone
I never asked you.
Your perceptions of life are limited.
Both of your eyes are closed.
You do nothing but spew
Your ignorance and hypocrisy
Hoping someone will care
What Defines a Thought? by Moududur Rahman
What defines a thought?
A collection of people or vice
/versa questions, often questioned
A lone arrow shot
In the dark returns naught bit
I know it means all
